What sets a Cornerstone Specialties home apart?
Our specialty is providing high performance energy efficient homes. For almost 10 years we have focused on the goal of building homes with maximum energy savings. Considering that the number one energy user in a home is the heating and cooling system, we build to reduce these costs. We believe the little things that we do behind the sheetrock will make a big difference in how a home performs. We also use high performance Energy Star products.
How do we know that we are getting an Energy Star Home?
Unless a home is tested for energy efficiency, the performance of that home is purely guess work. We hire independent energy raters to test each and every home we build. All of our customers receive a complimentary certificate with the results of the test along with the score their home received. Our homes have consistently achieved the rating of 5-star plus, the highest score possible to attain. Our commitment to building an energy star home can be seen by the number of homes we have tested which are listed on www.energystar.gov
What does “5 Star Plus” mean?
There are six categories: 1 Star, 2 Stars, 3 Stars, 4 Stars, 5 Stars, and 5 Star Plus. Each rating gets progressively better. A 5 Star Plus rating is the best score possible. The Stars are based on a HERS rating.
What is a HERS Rating?
Each home is given a HERS (Home Energy Rating Standard) score. This score relates to how energy efficient a home is, similar to the mpg rating on a car. Homes are rated based on the components in the home and construction techniques that effect energy performance.
What does this all this energy business mean?
At Cornerstone Specialties we like to say, “It’s like giving yourself the raise you deserve.” It only makes sense that if we can reduce the energy needed to operate a home, you’ll be paying less every month in utility bills. Put another way, at the end of every month there is more money in your wallet.
What kind of costs are we looking at to build our home?
No Surprises! We will sit down and discuss what your options are so you know exactly what costs will be.
How long will it take to build our home?
It varies. At our initial consultation we can give you a projected completion date. We always communicate with you if there are any delays in construction. Rarely have our clients had to wait beyond the expected move in date.
Can we purchase our own lot?
Yes. If you already own a lot or are planning to purchase a lot, we would be happy to build a home for you.
If Cornerstone Specialties doesn’t have a lot in the development we want to live in can one be purchased?
Possibly. We would do all that we can to make arrangements to purchase an available lot that would fulfill your dreams.
We have some ideas of our own that we want to incorporate into our home. Can you work with us to make them happen?
Absolutely. We will go out of your way to accommodate you so that your dream home can be built.
Can we do some of the work ourselves?
Yes. We can work with you to determine the feasibility of your involvement in the building process.
Can we change details after construction has begun?
Yes. We will try our best to accommodate your needs. Call us as soon as possible so that we can work with you to determine the feasibility of your request.
Can we have custom wall finishes and paint color?
Absolutely. Our professional team is eager to help you achieve what you’ve envisioned.
Will our new home come with a warranty?
Yes. Our homes come with a standard one-year warranty, although certain products may have an extended warranty.
